The Village of Evendale
Special Council Meeting
July 31, 2007
The Village of Evendale held a Special Council Meeting at 7:00 pm on July 31, 2007. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Don Apking. Upon roll call, the following members were present: Mr. Chris Schaefer, Mr. Jeff Albrinck, Mr. Bill Puthoff, Jr., Mr. Stiney Vonderhaar and Mr. Doug Lohmeier. Mrs. Carolyn Smiley-Robertson was on vacation. Also present were the Chief Fiscal Officer, George Snyder and Village Clerk, Michelle Ficke.
C. Spence Faxon from Energy Alliance addressed council concerning aggregation which is a process by which communities combine their residents into large buying groups, for increased buying power, price stability and choices for members. This would apply to natural gas purchases only and not electric. Mr. Schaefer explained that you would still receive a bill from Duke Energy, however, Energy Alliance would supply the natural gas to Duke with a rate not to exceed a set amount. The rate with the flex down program moves with the market and savings are passed onto consumers. Reading, Symmes, Sycamore and Indian Hill are looking at this option closely.
There are two programs: the Opt-out Program and the Endorsement Program. Mr. Schaefer recommended that we consult Tim Burke and draft legislation to consider the endorsement program.
Other items:
Mayor Apking introduced the topic of the Cultural Arts Center. Mr. Lohmeier and Mr. Albrinck said that they plan to take a look at the Civic Center before making any decisions.
Mayor Apking discussed the demolition of three properties that the Village now owns. The property on South Reading road will be demolished to create the new entrance park into Evendale. The parsonage on Village grounds will be torn down with the idea of building a new shelter house that could be rented out to residents. The third property is the Inwood house. Mayor Apking said that the Village has to be taxes and insurance on the properties and it would beneficial to tear them down to save money. Mayor Apking said that if we do it in-house we could demolish all three for $15,000-$20,000. He will rent the machine for thirty days to help in the demolition. Council agreed that this was the best avenue for deomolition.
Mayor Apking said he will talk to Sharonville concerning a traffic light at Sharon and Medallion Road. It is a dangerous intersection with trucks entering Sharon Road.
Mayor Apking asked for a motion to go into Executive Session to discuss property acquisition. A motion to adjourn was made by Mr. Albrinck seconded by Mr. Vonderhaar and unanimously approved. Council adjourned into Executive Session at 7:32 pm.
There being no further business to come before council, Mayor Apking asked for a motion to adjourn. A motion to adjourn was made by Mr. Puthoff seconded by Mr. Lohmeier and unanimously approved. Council adjourned at 8:08 pm.
